Admissions Requirements for Online MBA in Cyber Security

An online MBA in Cyber Security will prepare you for a career protecting vital data and systems from cyber criminals — hackers who seek to gain other’s sensitive data for their own purposes.

Once you decide to pursue an MBA in Cyber Security, you need to be certain you have the materials and meet the requirements for admission to the online program of your choice.

Undergraduate Degree

Before you can pursue an MBA, you must have earned a BA or BS. Some undergraduate degrees may be a “better fit” for an MBA in Cyber Security than others, so you might want to find out which undergraduate majors tend to gain acceptance into your MBA program of choice.

Grades

Your undergraduate grades matter. If you are applying immediately following your undergraduate program, MBA programs will see your grades as a more reliable indicator of your potential than they will if you are applying after a several years of experience in the business world.

Experience

No matter what your undergraduate field of study, experience with cyber security will be a plus in your quest for admission. If you have been out of college for many years and have experience in the cyber security field, it will be important that you mention that in your admission packet. You may even be able to get some credit for your work experience.

The GMAT

Most MBA programs require applicants to take the Graduate Management Admission Test. You can prepare for the test by taking some sample exams. You’ll become familiar with the format and types of questions on the test. The scores from this test will be a very important part of your application. Be sure to give test prep the attention it deserves. Before taking the test, check to see if the school you’re applying to waives GMAT scores if you have sufficient experience in the field.

The Essay

This is your time to tell your story. Tell it in a positive fashion, and include the challenges and victories that led to the decision to pursue a graduate degree. Make sure you give detailed examples that show that you are suitable to the program and the cyber security field.
