Courses

In order to earn the Master of Business Administration online, students must complete 12 courses (36 credit hours), including 27 credit hours of core courses and nine credit hours of electives. All courses are seven weeks in length.

Admissions

Applicants for the Master of Business Administration online degree program must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution, along with a satisfactory GMAT score (or accepted GMAT waiver). The Graduate Programs Coordinator and the College of Business and Technology Graduate Admissions Committee will determine acceptance into the program.

Tuition

Students in the Master of Business Administration online degree program can pay for each course as they enroll. There is a $50 application fee, but all other fees are included in the total cost of tuition. Costs are the same for students in Texas or from outside the state.

For the Master of Business Administration online, the curriculum is comprised of 12 courses covering 36 credit hours, including 27 hours of core courses and nine hours of electives.

Focuses on leadership and development issues addressed by members of the top management team and other upper-level managers. Topics include coordination between and among units, managerial control systems, and the development of management talent within the firm.

Use of accounting data in the decision-making process and in the analysis and control of business operations.

Financial management of the firm with special emphasis on financial planning, capital concepts.

Analysis of the operations management functions from a manager's perspective. Quantitative techniques related to decision making such as linear programming, statistics and selected operational models are applied to operations management problems in both the service and manufacturing industries.

Investigation of issues managers face when trying to lead individuals and organizational units to achieve corporate objectives. Focus of the course emphasizes the individual and group levels of analysis.

Focus is on the role of HR managers and practices in developing competitive advantage for the firm. Considers the role of both specific HR practices and the overall HR architecture in enhancing firm performance.

An analysis of contemporary problems in marketing with emphasis on dynamic market characteristics.

Duration: 7 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Students adopt the top management’s view of the firm and focus on positioning the firm to gain strategic advantage in the competitive marketplace. Industry analysis, planning and implementation of competitive strategy, evaluation of strategy alternatives, utilization of appropriate controls, and the evaluation of the administrative process are emphasized.

An intensive study of the different aspects of international business including, but not limited to, international politics, culture, economics, finance, technology, marketing, ethical decision-making, strategic planning and management, and human resource development in a global environment.

Students must choose three of the following courses.

Areas of study in marketing that reflect contemporary topics not covered by organized courses.

An introduction to the American healthcare system, its components, organizations, and management in the system. Subjects will include the historical development, structure, operation, and current and future directions of the American healthcare delivery system and healthcare ethics.

A review and analysis of current trends in the health care field with a focus on managed care and the implication for business and marketing practitioners.

An exploration of current health management topics that are not covered in other courses.

A study of the production, consumption, and marketing of services; the solutions to problems faced by service managers; and the development of an organization marketing system for the delivery of quality service.

This course will cover cryptography, network protocols and their application, including an overview of symmetric and asymmetric cryptographic algorithms and their use for authentication, e-mail, and e-commerce. Network security protocols covered with include Kerberos, SET, and SMIME.

This course will cover the techniques used to secure and manage computers, computer networks, and enterprise computer systems. Topics covered will include security policies, computer network management, and disaster recovery.

This course is designed to teach students the basics of information systems assessment, evaluation, and red teaming. The students use the National Security Agency’s ISAM Methodology to evaluate vulnerabilities and to develop appropriate responses to mitigate security risks. The students participate in a long term assessment/evaluation project in this course with an actual organization.

Admissions

Let's begin! The admission process is the first step toward earning your online degree. Familiarize yourself with these requirements for the Master of Business Administration online program, along with information on required documentation.

MBA Online Requirements

Prospective students seeking admission must submit the following in order for eligibility to be determined:

  • Complete an online application.
  • Pay the $50 application fee. The non-refundable fee must be paid before the application will be processed.
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
  • Satisfactory GMAT score (or accepted GMAT waiver)
    • Quantitative measures are integrated into an index that multiplies the applicant's 60-hour GPA times 200 and adds the total GMAT score (60-hour GPA X 200) + GMAT => 1000. An index score of greater that 1000 is typical of a successful candidate.
    • If the student's 60-hour GPA is above 3.25, the GMAT may be waived
    • If below a 3.25 GPA, applicants with three or more years of extensive healthcare work or executive managerial experience earned in the U.S or with a U.S. government entity may request to have the GMAT requirement waived by the Graduate Coordinator. A formal resume must be submitted to cbtgradadvising@uttyler.edu.
    • In rare instances, the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) may be accepted in lieu of the GMAT

After reviewing all credentials (official transcripts, GMAT score, other relevant information), the Graduate Programs Coordinator and the College of Business and Technology Graduate Admissions Committee will determine if the student is accepted into the program. A degree plan will be prepared by the Graduate Programs Advisor with the student. Students will be notified of official acceptance into the program. Full admission must occur prior to enrollment beyond nine semester credit hours.

Students may request that the original institution send the transcripts electronically to ogs@uttyler.edu. Transcripts sent electronically will only be reviewed if they are received directly from the original school.

Provisional Admission

Provisional admission will be offered if unofficial transcripts showing proof of a baccalaureate degree with the required GPA is submitted prior to the first start date. Provisional admission status is good for two start periods—whether or not you attend. Official transcripts must be submitted prior to the third start date in order for full admission to be granted. A student who is not fully admitted by the beginning of the third start date will not be allowed to continue in the program.

Tuition

The following is the tuition breakdown for students pursuing a Master of Business Administration online. Tuition is the same for in-state and out-of-state students.

Tuition & Fee Refund Schedule

If a student formally drops one or more courses through the Registrar's Office, the University will refund applicable tuition and fees collected for courses a student drops within the first four days of the session, provided the student remains enrolled at the institution for that session. Refunds for courses dropped by a student who withdraws later in the session from the University will be calculated according to the following schedule:

Partial Withdrawals

  • From registration through fourth class day: 100%
  • After fourth class day: no refund

Complete Withdrawals

For refunds, the effective date of withdrawal will be the date when the withdrawal is officially completed and recorded by the Registrar's Office. If the University cancels a scheduled course of instruction, all fees will be refunded. No refunds will be made unless applied for in the same school year as the withdrawal. Immediate refund will not be made to students who withdraw during the refund period. Normally, a refund will be made within 30 days from the last day of scheduled refunds to the student's chosen refund preference (check, direct deposit (ACH) or P2 card).
